How-to Perform the Glute Bridge:
• Lie flat on your back with your knees hip distance apart, bent, and your feet flat on the ground below your knees.

• Hold, and slowly return to mat.

How to Use Mets to Calculate Calories Burned
• METs are a great way to calculate calories burned as well as measure progress in one’s fitness goals!
• While resting, your body burns 3.5ml of oxygen per kg of bodyweight per minute. This is equivalent to one MET

In order to calculate calories burned per minute, use this formula:
• 1 MET x 3.5 x weight in kg ÷ 200 x 1 minute = Number of Calories burned per minute
• With this calculation you can calculate calories burned per day at rest, and therefore the minimum amount of calories you should consume each day!
• METs change with physical activity.

For example, sitting still is 1 MET but walking at 2mph is working at about 2.5 METs.

If you walk at this pace for 45 minutes, the calculation would be:
• 2.5 METs x 3.5 x Weight in kg ÷ 200 x 30 minute = Number of Calories burned in 30 minutes of walking at 2mph
• METs take some getting used to but once you get the hang of using them, they are a great way to measure caloric expenditure and can be a great tool in your health and fitness efforts!!

The Conclusion

The Matrix Rowing Machine performs at the highest level in the fitness equipment industry. Unlike the WaterRower and other machines that use water for resistance, this machine utilizes a brushed aluminum flywheel with 10 magnetic resistance settings. The resistance settings has a expansive range, from very easy to heavy resistance, to allow users to challenge themselves in different ways throughout their fitness journey.

The machine is very smooth and quiet, which is important for me as I will be using it within my home. The footprint is very small as you easily can tilt the machine up for movement and storage purposes.

The seat is a great size and is very comfortable, making users more likely to complete longer workouts. The handle is smooth and comfortable to grip. It’s very easy for me to get my feet in and secure in the claps. The only issue was removing my feet, at times the back heel cup would catch my shoe and get caught.

The console is intuitive and features different training programs to get the most out of your workout. It displays the basic aspects of your workout including time, distance, strokes per minute, heart rate, calories, and more. I was able to focus on my workout and see my progress at a glance.

I enjoy using this machine and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great rower that will stand the test of time, and continue to present a challenge with each workout!

Maybe you have a little one at home, or have a tight schedule, or you simply don’t want to deal with the hustle and bustle of a busy gym and having to fight the crowds that always seem to grow as the new year comes around.

Sounds like the perfect time to consider adding circuit training to your at-home routine!

Circuit training is not only a fun way to get your workout in, but can also be one of the most productive workouts. The options are virtually limitless when it comes to designing a circuit-type workout. Not only can you get a great workout in by simply utilizing your own body weight, but by also incorporating some inexpensive at-home equipment. Include some resistance bands, kettlebells and medicine balls, and you’ll never get bored and the “I have no time” excuse can never be used!

For those not totally familiar with circuit training, it involves putting together a series (circuit) of exercises that you can perform one after another with little to no rest between exercises. The minimal rest between exercises is an important part of the workout because you purposely don’t want your body to achieve complete recovery during the circuit.

Some of the key benefits to circuit training include:

  • Time efficient – circuits can be short yet very effective.
  • Works the entire body – depending on how you design your circuit, you can easily achieve a total body workout
  • Improves conditioning and muscular endurance – by constantly moving from one exercise to another, your heart rate will stay up and your muscle endurance will improve.
  • Build muscle AND lose weight depending on the exercises used
  • Eliminates the need for separate cardio and strength equipment.
  • You can do these types of workouts virtually anywhere….at home, on the road, at the gym, outside, etc.
  • They’re great to do with a workout partner.
  • They can be a FUN way to work out!

There are many ways to design a circuit, which makes this type of training a perfect companion to your weight loss and strength training efforts. While there is no “best” circuit workout, a well-designed circuit will be one built around your particular fitness level and goals.

When choosing your exercises, you should include a mixture of:

  • Resistance exercises to help build valuable calorie-consuming muscle
  • Metabolic exercises that will increase your heart rate and help you burn calories throughout the day
  • High intensity and low intensity exercises that will allow you to push through the workout

There is no magic number of exercises to include when designing a circuit. While most may consist of 6-12 exercises, it’s totally up to you and what you want to accomplish in that day’s workout. You could pick 12 exercises and perform one set of each with no rest between. You could choose 6 exercises and go through the circuit 4 times. Circuit workouts can be intense and short (12-15 minutes), or they can be as long as 45-60 minutes.

As you can see, the variables are limitless so, while it may seem confusing, keep in mind the main point is to do more work in less time than you would in a normal gym session.

The Ultimate At-Home Treadmill HIIT Workout

Adding a treadmill into your HIIT style workouts provides a convenient option that can improve the quality of your training. Including a treadmill in your training program provides a greater range of options to make running more convenient, to increase the level of feedback you receive so that you can push harder during tough workouts, and to provide a lower impact alternative to outdoor runs for active recovery.

Here are a few ways to incorporate your treadmill for training and recovery, especially for doing HIIT style workouts at home.

Warm-ups and Cool Downs:

If you’re using an online app or pulling WOD’s from the HIIT website, you’ve probably noticed that most workouts are less than half an hour in duration. Since they are intense, it’s important to round them out with an appropriate warm-up and recovery, as well as some strength and mobility work most days.

Using a treadmill for your warm-up, provides a lower impact option that is often more convenient than running outside. Use your warm-up to concentrate on your form by engaging your core and releasing tension from your upper body … good practice to increase your efficiency and reduce your risk of injury later in the workout.

The treadmill also provides a convenient way to cool down with some light jogging or walking at the end of your workout. Because you can concentrate on your recovery rather than covering a set route or pace, you can pace your cool-down according to your needs on that day.

Treadmill Workouts:

Many HIIT style workouts incorporate runs for short distances of a mile or less. Without a properly measured running track and immediate access to your running route, you’ll lose time and accuracy in judging your performance in these workouts. The console of most treadmills provides immediate feedback on the distance covered and your pace, allowing you to accurately gauge your performance on your daily workout, as well as to respond to that feedback in increasing or decreasing your pace and effort level.

Active Recovery:

It’s easy to get excited about the strength training and skills involved in HIIT style workouts, often to the deficit of cardiovascular performance. You can use a treadmill on active recovery days to build cardiovascular and muscular endurance that will carry you through endurance workouts. The integrated heart rate feedback provides the option to maintain training in an aerobic training zone to ensure that you focus on recovery and avoid overtraining. The cushioned running track also allows you to reduce the risk of impact injuries compared to running on pavement and trails.

If you’re ready to get started, be sure to choose the right treadmill. For running workouts, you’ll want to choose a treadmill that can stand up to the task, especially if you’re a larger runner. The Ultimate WOD with Treadmill

Easy jog for 800 meters. Concentrate on relaxing the upper body, engaging the core, and working at a comfortable pace.


  • Foam roll calves, quads, and hamstrings.
  • Stretch in pigeon and down dog for 1 minute each (each side for pigeon).


  • 25 medicine ball thrusters (you can substitute these for the wall-balls in the workout as well), choice of weight at 75% perceived effort.
  • Back Squats to below parallel depth. 3 rounds of ten at 60% of personal max. Using a Dynamax ball as a target to squat to, bring your butt lower than your knees for each repetition. If scaling, these can also be completed without weight or holding a kettle bell in front of your chest to allow you to concentrate on depth and maintaining an upright position.

The Workout:

Ten minutes, as many rounds as possible of the following…

  • 2 reps shoulder to overhead using dumbbells.
  • Run 400 meters.
  • 10 wall balls (may substitute Dynamax ball thrusters).
  • 20 calorie row.


  • Walk at on the treadmill at a slow pace for five minutes.
  • Stretch quads, hamstrings, calves, and shoulders.

The Matrix A30 Ascent Trainer includes power incline and multiple integrated convenience features. The Matrix XER console includes a clear display and an intuitive home screen that offers easy access to entertainment.

I love the features that the A30 provides to the exerciser. To some exercising could be tedious, but it hard to be bored while working out on the A30. The A30 has programs divided into sections including training, goals, target heart rate resistance, and Sprint 8. My favorite program that the A30 offers is the Sprint 8. It is a science-based cardio workout program has been proven to boost energy, reduce body fat, promote lean muscle mass and improve cholesterol in just eight weeks. Exercisers will be able to track their workouts through the ViaFit app. One can also keep track of their calories via my fitness pal.

The other features added in the A30 are entertainment based. The virtual active Virtual Active is a first-person, forward-motion video experience designed to enhance one’s cardio workout by experiencing journeys through stunning worldwide destinations from the inside of one’s home. One will also be able to watch their favorite movies and television shows via Hulu and Netflix.

While on the A30, I experienced a great workout. With most elliptical, since one’s feet need to stay on foot pedals, they can feel like they have less control over their movements, and it’s less natural for someone who’s used to running. This elliptical is designed with Perfect Stride motion eliminates surges and dead spots so you move more smoothly, burn more calories and get better results.

Overall, I believe the A30 is an excellent piece of fitness equipment. I enjoyed myself exercising on it. It is not like most cardiovascular machines on the market. The console is large, clear and easy to use. Exercisers are able to change workout while working out, while other machines causes one to stop their original workout in order to start a new one. The A30 is the way of the future. Smart technology is in everything from phone to televisions, so why not incorporate them into fitness equipment. These features cause one to be completely immersed into the machine, which results in a better workout experience. I would highly recommend this product to all exercisers.
