Vision Fitness S7100HRT Suspension Elliptical – Review

by on October 11th, 2016

The Conclusion

The first thing you notice when you see the Vision S7100 HRT Suspension Trainer is its compact design and minimal footprint. The product lives small, and due to the minimal active footprint of the machine it allows those users with limited workout space to easily fit this product into the home’s workout area.

The space-saving design of the S7100 is appealing, but the performance of the machine is the number one priority for me and with the small footprint I was concerned about the ellipse stride and length of stride. During my demo of the machine (I am not in the video, that is a fellow fitness enthusiast) I evaluated the stride and length and although I determined it was comfortable enough, I would prefer a longer stride than the 20-21” variable stride offered by the S7100. I am 5’10” and a runner, so I prefer to stretch my stride. Shorter users, or those with shorter running strides may have no issue with the stride and even prefer it to a longer stride…but as this is my review, I just want to give my fair evaluation and my opinion as the product relates to me and my fitness needs.

In the past, I would use the elliptical trainers without using the arms to try to mimic my running motion but recently I’ve found that the arms and my upper body allows me to really increase the resistance of the machine and get a different sort of muscular workout combined with the cardiovascular exercise on the elliptical. The resistance system of the Vision S7100 HRT was up to the challenge as I increased the resistance levels it continued to perform well and I was really challenged with smooth and consistent resistance in the ECB magnetic braking system.

The S7100HRT Elliptical console is easy to understand and use without a lot of time spent looking at the console. Getting started on the S7100HRT very quick and easy, you can select a custom program or select from a preconfigured exercise program. The Sprint8 program is an exclusive workout program to the Vision and Matrix Fitness products and it’s a highly challenging 20-minute workout with periods of intense sprinting and recovery periods. I would highly recommend Sprint8 workouts for anyone looking to burn calories and improve your fitness level and get a serotonin, endorphin, and dopamine lift. The feedback readouts are always visible and easy to understand throughout your workout, making it easy to analyze your performance during and after your workout.

The ability to add the Passport Player and attach to your TV is a great way to get fully immersed in your workout on the S7100HRT Elliptical. The Passport Player video syncs to the speed and intensity of your workout while displaying on the screen a first person view of you running through two preloaded courses; Northern Italy, and the American Southwest. The Vision Fitness Passport Player’s immersive experience of viewing as if you were running outdoors in a new environment helped me to focus on the scenery and
exercise longer and more intensely.

The Vision S7100HRT Suspension Trainer is a strong value option for its price. The minimal footprint of the machine and the performance it provides exceeds other elliptical trainer options in its price point and the Warranty (Frame – Lifetime, Parts & Brake – 5 Years, Labor – 2 Years) is unmatched by any in this price point.

Senior Fitness Info Session at Leisure Fitness

by on September 1st, 2016

University of Delaware & Leisure Fitness - Partners in Wellness
Article by UDaily staff Photo by Kathy F. Atkinson August 11, 2016
UD program focuses on fitness training for those over 55

With older adults more committed than ever to healthy aging, those over age 55 represent a fast-growing segment of the fitness population. The numbers increase even more when you factor in the many Americans of all ages and backgrounds who are seeking to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

“Most health clubs and fitness trainers would love to welcome clients of every age, but many do not know how to handle the full range of potential clientele,” says fitness expert Jim Menz, faculty member and program director for the University of Delaware’s Senior Fitness Specialist Certificate.

“Young people may be intrigued by industry advertising and have a particular set of personal goals; whereas other busy Americans are trying to balance work and family with the need to exercise,” said Menz. “Lately we’ve also seen an influx of older Americans take up fitness programs. Each client has his or her unique motivation, needs and challenges.”

UD’s new Senior Fitness Specialist Certificate was designed to help respond to these trends, preparing personal fitness trainers to work with clients of all ages, with a special focus on those over age 55.

The Senior Fitness Specialist Certificate will be of interest to the growing field of exercise, fitness, and other health care professionals serving older adults seeking to increase their longevity and boost their quality of life. It will also appeal to fitness enthusiasts seeking a rewarding career change or side career helping others achieve their health and fitness goals.

“Program graduates will be prepared to work with a full spectrum of clients,” added Menz, “from dedicated athletes to the over 40 million baby boomers seeking to maintain and improve their quality of life throughout the aging process.”

The curriculum has been designed to align with the nationally recognized Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) exam administered by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), making the program of particular interest to those seeking an entry-level personal trainer credential. ACSM is one of the few nationally accredited personal training certifications, opening opportunities throughout the fitness industry.

An information session for the fall Senior Fitness Specialist Certificate is planned for:
Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m., at Leisure Fitness in Newark, Delaware, where the course will also be held.

The information session is free, but reservations are requested. An in-person registration discount of 10 percent off the certificate cost will apply for attendees who register and pay in full at the Aug. 23 information session.

Prospective students attending the information session will have an opportunity to meet the program faculty, including lead instructor and program creator Menz, a certified strength and conditioning specialist and corrective exercise specialist with over 20 years’ experience. Other instructors include UD alumnus Mark Szaroleta, a graduate of UD’s doctoral program in physical therapy, and Ann Gioia, a nurse educator with over 20 years’ experience in nursing, health care, curriculum design and teaching.

The certificate program takes place at Leisure Fitness’ Newark location and combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning in a state-of-the-art fitness facility. Classes meet 6-9 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings from Aug. 29-Dec. 14.

The 15-week curriculum includes a detailed foundation in exercise science; anatomy and physiology; and health, medical and exercise considerations for older adults. There are no academic prerequisites to enroll in this program.

This noncredit program is offered through the University’s Division of Professional and Continuing Studies.

UD students and UD alumni are eligible for a discount when enrolling in this program. Other discounts and financial assistance options are available. For more information or to RSVP for the Aug. 23 information session, visit this website, write to or call 302-831-7600 or 1-866-820-0238.

Leisure Fitness Wellness Professional Network – Meet the Trainer: Mike Gannon

by on July 18th, 2016

Mike Gannon Fitness, X Fit for Success, Reston, Virginia
Leisure Fitness Trainer Network includes a variety of fitness professionals and in this MEET THE TRAINER segment we would like to introduce you to Mike Gannon.

INTERVIEW w/ Mike Gannon, Personal Trainer.
Training Location: Reston,VA

-At what age did you become physically active?
I have been physically active since I was a little youngster. I always loved playing sports, running and testing my abilities to perform.

-Did you play sports in high school and/or college?
I was actively involved in baseball, tennis and golf. I wrestled and played on the high school tennis team as well as trained with the Junior Davis cup tennis team.

-Did you study health and fitness in an academic setting?
I earned my degree in Human Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at Virginia Tech. I also placed runner up at the first Virginia Tech body building championship.

-How do you seek out continuing education?
I have kept up with continuing education in the areas of nutrition and exercise science. I’ve also expanded my capabilities to serve my clients by becoming a certified success coach, thus allowing me to help them work through behaviors, beliefs and attitudes that hold them back from achieving their goals. Mental training serves as a big adjunct to the overall success of their program.

-Do you specialize in a training style?
My years of experience in weight loss, bodybuilding and strength training has allowed me to expand my specialty in the areas of sports specific training and performance, exercise rehabilitation and mental training. As a nutritionist I help athletes and clients alike make wise food choices. I also bring into play sports nutrition and nutrient timing to enhance energy and recovery. I’m a firm believer in creating congruence among all the training variables to assure my clients attains the greatest success in the shortest amount of time. My greatest passion is witnessing their progress change before my eyes. Results!

-What is your coaching style? (Cheerleader vs. drill sergeant)
My strength as a trainer/success coach is my ability to listen and observe minute details. I first acutely observe what the client really wants (often it is more than just a performance outcome) and get down to what really inspires them to seek the results they are looking for. I let them know it is a team effort and together we will work through and communicate what needs to be known so that we can make the necessary changes that propel us to the desired outcome the client seeks. My greatest strength is my commitment to purpose. I hold with conviction the outcome we want to attain and do whatever it takes safely and effectively to help the client reach their goals. Plus, I like to work with clients who like to have fun and laugh along the way.

-Do you include a health assessment prior to beginning a fitness program?
Yes, I find it very important to know what pre-existing conditions I need to work with that has to be taken into consideration before we start training. I have vast experience working with a variety of issues such as joint injuries and mobility; high blood pressure and cholesterol, asthma, metabolic and eating disorders, posture and spinal issues, balance and flexibility and of all things, holding the baby so mommy can do her workout.

-How frequently do you see your clients? (Once a week, twice a week?)
I train clients from once, twice to three times a week. All depends on the availability of my schedule as well as the time objective and commitment the client is willing to make.

-What kind of clients do you usually work with and what results were they trying to attain?
I never know what challenges come my way but I have clients that come for a variety of reasons and issues. The beauty is with over 3 decades of experience I feel confident in my abilities to address any challenges. Most common objective my clients want are weight loss, strength and muscle toning, diet and nutrition guidance. Training for sports performance with professional athletes and teenagers, injury rehabilitation, mental training (includes but not limited to behavior re-patterning, peak performance and creating successful mindset training) and simply looking and feeling better about themselves for health reasons are quite common.

Professional obligations:
-Where did you get certified to be a personal trainer? (N.S.C.A., N.A.S.M., and A.C.S.M. are the gold standards)
In addition to my degree in nutrition and exercise science, I am certified as a personal trainer with the national academy of sports medicine. I was also on their staff as a trainer training the trainers. I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the national strength and conditioning association. Also a certified golf fitness trainer. In the mental training department, I am a certified success and life coach with success unlimited network. I’m certified as an NLP practitioner (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and a certified hypnotherapist. I am well adept in the understanding of quantum physics and how our thoughts create and affect not only our bodies but our life. I am an award winning author of the book “If These Ears Could Sing!” A book about the law of attraction in action.

-How do you program and track the client’s progress?
It varies according to the clients needs. Measurements and documentation are done when written progress are required. Client programming is done according to the collective training agenda set by the client. My approach remains flexible, purposeful and focused.

-What is your strategy for preventing and dealing with injuries?
My motto ever since I have started my career is “safety first!” Injuries are the bane of progress. I feel I have mastered the art of minimizing and preventing possible injuries before they occur. My attention to detail and knowing what to look for is a strong suit any client can feel comfortable about when working with me.

-Do you stay on top of the latest fitness trends and related research?
Every day I make the effort to stay current and learn something new. Stagnation is not an option and I love learning things that can make a better trainer for my clients.

-Do you hold liability insurance?

-Why did you embark in this profession?
I believe anything is possible and starting at a young age on my own self improvement journey, I have embraced the learning of being the best I can be body, mind and spirit. And as such, I am inspired to do the same for others.

Leisure Fitness Gainesville, VA – 5-Star Yelp Review

5-Stay Yelp Review - Leisure Fitness Gainesville VA

Great job Carl Smith of our Leisure Fitness – Gainesville, VA Store providing excellent customer service, comprehensive fitness knowledge, and recommendations for the best products to fit the customer’s needs.
Yelp Review: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

“I’ve known about Leisure Fitness for quite a while having lived near Tysons in the past and one of their stores. Over the years had even stopped by there a number of times but never bought anything and always heard really good things about them. I can honestly say they have a no pressure, candid, honest approach to their customers and want to make the best fit possible for them. I ended up discovering they have a Gainesville store closer to where I live now and finally decided on a treadmill for my home. Carl at this store was easy and flexible to work with and I ended up with a very nice deal overall in a solid treadmill for my needs from a store that will stand behind their products. Best Regards, Steve (Soccer-22) Aldie, VA.”
